| American Pimp 1999 |
| Street pimps, all of them African-American, discuss their lives and work: getting started, being flamboyant, pimping in various U.S. cities, bringing a woman into their group, taking a woman from another pimp, and the rules and regulations of pimping. The men are clear: it's about money. The women work every night, hustle hard, turn over all their earnings, and steal anything they can from clients. We meet a few of the women, who tell us what they want from a pimp. We also listen to a women who's legally employed at a Nevada brothel; we meet her White boss, a legal pimp. He and the street pimps, some of whom are now retired, make the case for legalizing the trade. |

| Willie Dynamite |
Willie Dynamite is most certainly one of the most flamboyant pimps to ever grace the screen and his "stable" of beautiful women are frequently scantily clad, but don't let the smooth taste fool you, Willie Dynamite is not your average pimp film.
"Willie Dynamite" was at times thought-provoking, frequently intense and entertaining throughout. Watching Willie Dynamite fall from pimp grace makes for some interesting drama.
Roscoe Orman is great as the fallen pimp and Diana Sands is brilliant as always but there is much to be said about the performance of the young Joyce Walker, Willie's newest and most inexperienced 'treat'. This film's motto seems to be 'even an old dog can learn new tricks' as each of the main characters undergo some form of transformation before the credits start rolling. |

| Shaft's Big Score 1972 |
When a pal of detective John Shaft is murdered in a bombing (and $250,000 in cash turns up missing), New York's coolest private eye finds himself caught in the middle of a power struggle between black and white gangsters over the numbers racket in Queens. Directed by Gordon Parks (who does a brief cameo as a croupier in an illegal casino) and written by Ernest Tidyman (both of whom did the original Shaft), this film lacks the pacing of its progenitor. Roundtree is at his best when he's questioning a woman he's just met about a suspect while at the same time beguiling her into the sack (ah, those lazy, crazy days of the sexual revolution). The finale--a shootout in a cemetery, followed by a car-boat-helicopter chase through Queens and up the Harlem River--is preposterously drawn-out: Shaft, impervious to machine-gun fire, winds up tripping, spraining his ankle, and limping while running from the chopper; two shots later, he's sprinting like a halfback. Look for late Muhammad Ali trainer Drew Bundini Brown as a wise-cracking mobster. |

| A Pimp's Tale Sugar Valentine |
This is a good movie based on a real life story. Sugar Valentine is the perfect example of "po pimpin'." He lives in a one bedroom or possibly a studio apartment. There is no food in his kitchen, he is even eating instant oatmeal. His only hoe is blind (no joke, she is blind), and in the beginning of the film his hottest hoe, Naomi leaves him alone.
Sugar isn't mean, he isn't frightening. He even writes poems--yes a pimp who writes poems and reflects on his life and feeds ducks.
Sugar comes from a long line of pimps, and his daddy is in the hospital very ill. Sugar tries his best to pay his fathers hospital bills. Sugar is a bum. He has a nice car, but his look is all wrong for the pimping game--now his brother has big muscles, flashy car, well groomed and a nice spot to rest his head. His brother is doing good in the pimpin game. The story takes an interesting turn when Sugar gets involved with a renegade how that has no pimp and claims she is on the streets in LA looking for her runaway sister. |

| Taxi Driver |
Taxi Driver is the definitive cinematic portrait of loneliness and alienation manifested as violence. It is as if director Martin Scorsese and screenwriter Paul Schrader had tapped into precisely the same source of psychological inspiration ("I just knew I had to make this film," Scorsese would later say), combined with a perfectly timed post-Watergate expression of personal, political, and societal anxiety. Robert De Niro, as the tortured, ex-Marine cab driver Travis Bickle, made movie history with his chilling performance as one of the most memorably intense and vividly realized characters ever committed to film. Bickle is a self-appointed vigilante who views his urban beat as an intolerable cesspool of blighted humanity. He plays guardian angel for a young prostitute (Jodie Foster), but not without violently devastating consequences. This masterpiece, which is not for all tastes, is sure to horrify some viewers, but few could deny the film's lasting power and importance. |

Army veteran Slaughter's latest adventure doesn't take him to South America (incongruously referenced as Mexico here), but there's still plenty of trouble to be found in the U.S.
The plot here follows a bungled Mob hit on Slaughter that ends up killing a good friend of his, and Slaughter's efforts to get revenge. Black Action Movie genre veterans abound in this film: Gloria Hendry ("Black Belt Jones", "Live & Let Die") is the leading lady here, Marcia. Brock Peters is Reynolds, a cop who thinks some of his superiors are on the take. They are, and the Mob boss behind them is Ed McMahon, aka Duncan. Don Stroud is Kirk, the lead henchman, and Slaughter's main foil here.
Again, a list of kickback recipients figures into the plot: Dick Anthony Williams (billed here as Richard) is Joe Creole, a pimp and professional burglar for hire(!), who becomes Slaughter's temporary partner in heisting Duncan's ledgers listing the politicians and other public officials receiving payoffs. This leads to a game of cat-and-mouse between Slaughter and Kirk, and the violent climax in one of Duncan's nightclubs. |

| The Wash 2001 |
by R. Gregory Alonzo (Author) "The simple truth is that most men just don't realize that meeting, seducing and bedding women can be surprisingly simple..."
Raw and honest, provocative and titillating, Dahlia Schweitzer's Seduce Me lays bare the secrets of desire in stories of sensuous encounters, illicit affairs, forbidden passions—and obsessive hungers that must be satisfied, no matter where and when they arise. In these vivid tales of lust without limits, the lines are blurred between fantasy and reality, propriety and necessity. There are no boundaries or taboos, only needs to be fulfilled. Here women and men risk everything in pursuit of sexual satisfaction—and business always mixes with pleasure. |

| Virgins From Hell 1987 |
This is no high-minded art film, mind you. This is girls in hot pants battling a man called Mr. Tiger (whose dubbed voice reminds me of Bill Murray in an old SNL sketch, one in which he gave "noogies"). Mr. Tiger is an evil man who sells drugs and deals in slavery, and he killed the parents of two of these girls in order to obtain their house. He's apparently also redecorated since I doubt mom & dad had pink shag carpet on the living room walls. Anyway this wild bunch of women attack and burn a casino and then they really get mean. They're all on dirt bikes that put forth enough blue exhaust to perhaps cause carbon monoxide poisoning even while outside but to their credit, I don't see anyone coughing their heads off. Mr. Tiger has a group of highly trained militia men in red uniforms (how better to blend in with the jungle?) and they're apparently highly trained in the art of hitting the broad side of a barn but aren't too good when it comes to actually hitting human targets. Despite their shortcomings, they are somehow able to capture this band of wild women and hold them, for experiments and such for this new drug that makes them submissive, and Mr. Tiger gets to do all kinds of nasty things to them while they still remain tastefully clothed to comply with Indonesian film standards, I guess. Of course eventually the women escape and do battle with the bad guys, machine guns and all, and of course the survivors have to report back to Mr. Tiger to tell of their losses....I guess it's pretty embarrassing to have to report that your regiment had its collective butts kicked by a bunch of women dressed like Toni Basil. |
